The 2022-2023 College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA) season was an incredibly successful one for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) hockey team. With a remarkable record of 24-6-0, winning both the CHMA season championship and the playoff championship. IUP’s achievement in the CHMA league did not go unnoticed, with several players and head coach receiving well-deserved awards.
Head Coach Joe Honzo was awarded Coach of the Year, an accolade that recognizes his outstanding leadership and contribution to IUP’s success this season. Coach Honzo led his team to an impressive record, league and playoff championship titles, and a return to ACHA Nationals.
Rookie Shane Miller was awarded Rookie of the Year, a testament to his impressive debut season. Miller played an essential role in IUP’s success this season, contributing to their excellent record and championship titles. His promising talent and hard work suggest that he will be an asset to the team for years to come.
Dominick Glavach was awarded CHMA Playoff MVP, and 1st team All-CHMA forward. Glavach’s exceptional performance in the playoffs was instrumental in securing IUP’s playoff championship title. His ability to play under pressure and deliver outstanding results earned him the CHMA Playoff MVP award. Glavach’s recognition as 1st team All-CHMA forward further highlights his exceptional talent and skill.
Jace Rearic was awarded 2nd team All-CHMA forward, an accolade that recognizes his exceptional performance throughout the season. Rearic played a vital role in IUP’s successful campaign, contributing to their impressive record and championship titles. His skill and dedication to the team did not go unnoticed, earning him this well-deserved recognition.
Zach Sooy was awarded 2nd team All-CHMA defenseman, an accolade that recognizes his outstanding defensive skills and contributions to IUP’s success this season. Sooy’s performance was instrumental in helping the team achieve its impressive record and championship titles.

IUP’s remarkable achievements have earned them a place in the ACHA national tournament in Boston, MA, from March 16-23, 2023. As the 18th seed, the team faces Illinois State University in their first game.
