IUP started their CHMA season strong, defending last year’s league title with a decisive 7-2 win over Kent State University. The offense came alive early, as Jace Rearic (#25) kicked off the scoring with a goal assisted by Shane Miller (#57). Shortly after, Nathan Meola (#56) netted a second, with assists from Kyle Ziemba (#73) and Richard Wild (#10), putting IUP firmly in control.
Shane Miller was the night’s star, leading a powerful offensive charge with a second-period hat trick. His first goal came unassisted, displaying his individual skill. He added two more, assisted by Rearic and later by Spencer Johnston (#15) and Maddox Rearic (#24). Miller’s four-goal performance helped cement IUP’s lead, showcasing his strength as a returning force for the team.
Other key contributors included Chase Malloy (#7), who scored with assists from Trent Lunden (#67) and Jordan Adams (#5), as well as Eric Hambling (#20). Notably, this was Hambling’s first game against his former team, Kent State, and he marked the occasion with a goal and two penalties. Hambling’s goal was set up by Rearic and Ziemba, adding to IUP’s already commanding lead.
In goal, Shane Paremba (#40) delivered an outstanding performance, stopping 36 of 38 shots to ensure Kent State’s chances stayed limited throughout the game. His strong play in the net allowed IUP to stay on top and maintain momentum during Kent State’s pushbacks.
With this win, IUP opens their CHMA season on a high note, defending last year’s title with confidence and proving they’re a team to watch this season.
