Indiana, PA – Indiana University of Pennsylvania has cemented its place at the top of College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA) with two victories over Kent State University and John Carroll University. This marks the third consecutive CHMA Regular-Season Championship for the Crimson Hawks. Head Coach Joe Honzo reflected on the significance of the three-peat and the team’s consistent success.
“Winning one championship is tough, but doing it three times in a row speaks volumes about this team’s work ethic and character. Every guy in that locker room has stepped up when it matters most, and this weekend was another example of that.”
Fairman Leads the Way, Peremba and Gates Stand Tall
The offensive leader of the weekend was Hunter Fairman, who racked up six points (4G, 2A) across both games, playing a pivotal role in IUP’s success. Spencer Johnston added two goals, while Jace Rearic continued his goal scoring run.
Goaltending was a difference-maker, with Nathan Gates backstopping the Hawks to victory against Kent State, and Shane Peremba delivering a standout performance against John Carroll, including key saves in the shootout. Matt Loza and Shane Miller sealed the win over JCU with clutch shootout goals.
With the regular-season title secured, IUP now turns its focus to the CHMA Playoffs, aiming to bring home another playoff championship and advance to the ACHA Division 1 National Championship Tournament.
