IUP Ice Hockey Team Awards

With the CHMA playoffs and ACHA Nationals coming to a close, the IUP Men’s Ice Hockey team handed out their annual awards as voted by the players. These awards recognize outstanding performances and contributions made by the players throughout the season. The awards were handed out at a ceremony held at the Coney Island Banquet Room on April 30th, 2023.

The first award, the Impact Player Award, was given to Freshman Centerman Maddox Rearic. Rearic had an impressive season, improving over the course of the year and making a significant impact in games, at practice, and in the locker room. His work ethic and dedication to the team did not go unnoticed, and his contributions to the team’s success were vital.

The Crimson Hawk Award, given to the player dedicated to teamwork on and off the ice, was awarded to Senior Goaltender Danny Soltesz. Soltesz was not only a talented player but also a leader in the locker room and a mentor to his teammates. His contributions to the team were invaluable, and he was a major factor in the team’s success this season.

The Sam Kelly Award, given to the player that portrays IUP Hockey on and off the ice through leadership, sportsmanship, and community involvement, was awarded to Team Captain and Senior Centerman Dominick Glavach. Glavach was a leader both on and off the ice, always setting an example for his teammates to follow. His dedication to the team and the community made him a worthy recipient of this award.

The Defensive Player Award, given to the player that exemplifies individual and team defensive play, hard to play against philosophy, was awarded to Sophomore Defenseman Zack Sooy. Sooy’s excellent defensive play was a key factor in the team’s success this season, and his contributions were essential to the team’s performance.

The Unsung Hero Award, given to the player that goes above and beyond without receiving the recognition they deserve, was awarded to Junior Goaltender Jared Stahel. Stahel’s contributions to the team often went unnoticed, but his dedication to the team and his excellent performances in goal did not go unnoticed by his teammates.

Finally, the Players’ Most Valuable Player Award was given to Dominick Glavach. Glavach had an outstanding season, leading the team with 52 points, becoming the all-time IUP scoring leader, and being named the CHMA playoff MVP. His contributions to the team’s success were immeasurable, and he was a well-deserved recipient of this award.

The annual awards given out by the IUP Men’s Ice Hockey team recognize the hard work and dedication of the players throughout the season. These awards not only acknowledge outstanding performances but also highlight the importance of teamwork, leadership, and community involvement.
